This homemade strawberry lip balm is made from all-natural ingredients like pure beeswax, vitamin E and real freeze-dried strawberries. It’s quick to make, gentle on sensitive lips, and a fun little project to do with kids or to include in gift baskets.

With four girls in the house, we go through a lot of lip balm. Store-bought options disappear quickly, and many contain ingredients I prefer to avoid. Making lip balm at home lets me control what goes on our skin, and it’s affordable enough to make regularly. This strawberry version is one of our favorites—creamy, lightly scented, and moisturizing without any harsh chemicals.

I remember my mom keeping a small pink strawberry lip gloss in her purse when I was young, and my sisters and I would borrow it all the time. I wanted a homemade version of that nostalgic flavor for my girls, with safe, natural ingredients. The recipe below delivers a smooth, hydrating balm that smells and tastes subtly of strawberry, and it’s gentle enough for everyday use.

What You Need to Make Homemade Strawberry Lip Balm
Ingredients
- White beeswax pellets – give the balm structure and provide a light seal to lock in moisture.
- Vitamin E oil – nourishes and helps protect delicate skin on the lips.
- Shea butter – softens and soothes; has anti-inflammatory benefits for dry skin.
- Coconut oil – adds moisture and antioxidants for lip protection.
- Almond oil – lightweight carrier oil that helps heal and soften; jojoba is a good substitute.
- Raw honey – natural humectant that helps retain moisture and adds mild sweetness.
- 5–10 drops essential oils – grapefruit, orange or a blend give a fruity note; peppermint adds a cooling sensation (use only 5 drops if using strong “hot” oils like peppermint or cinnamon).
- Freeze-dried strawberries – ground to a fine powder to add natural color and flavor.
Supplies
- Small lip balm containers such as glass jars or metal tins.

How to Make Homemade Strawberry Lip Balm
Prep: Place the freeze-dried strawberries into a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin until you have a fine powder. Set aside.
Double boiler: Heat about a cup of water over medium heat in a small saucepan. Set a heatproof bowl on top to create a simple double boiler.
Melt: Add the beeswax pellets, shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil and vitamin E oil to the bowl. Stir occasionally until all solids are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
Finish: Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the honey and your chosen essential oils until evenly combined. Add the powdered strawberries and keep stirring as the mixture begins to cool and thicken slightly.
Spoon: When the mixture starts to thicken but is still pourable, spoon it into your containers. Doing this too early will cause the strawberries to sink; doing it too late will make pouring difficult.
Harden: Allow the lip balms to cool and set for about an hour at room temperature. Once firm, seal the containers.

Tips
Stir thoroughly: Don’t pour while the mixture is fully melted. Stir and let it cool slightly so the strawberry powder stays suspended instead of sinking.
Storage: Use the lip balm within six months for best freshness and effectiveness. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Oil choices: Grapefruit and orange essential oils create a fruity, punch-like scent. Peppermint is cooling but strong—use sparingly if chosen.
