20 New Gluten-Free Products to Try in April 2021

Summer is approaching and supermarket shelves are filling with a wave of new gluten free foods. I’ve been out scouting the aisles over the past few weeks and gathered together a generous round-up of recent free-from releases.

This edition includes meal kits, barbecue-friendly products, a host of new breads and wraps, and several convenient ready meals and snacks. There should be something here for anyone looking to expand their gluten free options for picnic season and beyond.

Below are 20 free-from items I spotted this month, with brief impressions from my visits to various supermarkets.

Asda’s Bacon Crunch Burger Kit

This Asda burger kit caught my eye for its fun combination of cheese, barbecue ketchup and bacon-style crisps. It’s a playful twist on a classic burger and looks ideal for a relaxed summer meal. I haven’t had the chance to cook it yet, but it’s high on my to-try list.

Asda Black Bean Stir Fry Kit

I’ve always enjoyed black bean sauce from Chinese takeaway menus, so this beef and black bean stir fry kit was a welcome find. It’s clearly labelled gluten free and produced good results when I tried it, though the vegetables can become a little soft if cooked too long. I’d like to see the sauce available separately in future.

Asda Italian Style Meatballs

Asda’s gluten free Italian-style meatballs come in a tomato and vegetable sauce and look like a comforting, easy meal. They’re one I’ll be trying soon as an everyday family dinner option.

Sainsbury’s Tempura Chicken Mini Fillets

These tempura-style chicken mini fillets were an accidental gluten free discovery for me. They’re not marketed as free-from, but the ingredients list contains no gluten, and they’re a handy chilled option similar to other accidental finds from other retailers. Great for quick meals or barbecues.

Sainsbury’s Salted Caramel Crispy Squares

These salted caramel crispy squares are gluten free and vegan, and they make a decadent snack or dessert treat. I found them in the free-from aisle; while other retailers may have similar options, these are convenient to pick up during a shop.

Sainsbury’s Free From Choco Flakes

Chocolate cereals are always tempting, and these gluten free choco flakes are a welcome breakfast addition in the free-from range. They were one of the more noticeable new items in my local free-from aisle.

BFree High Protein and Avocado Wraps

BFree has launched two new wraps at my local store: a high-protein version with around 12g of protein per wrap and a distinctive avocado-flavoured wrap. The high-protein wrap is particularly appealing for filling lunches, while the avocado wrap is an intriguing new flavour to try.

Genius Gluten Free Tiger Loaf

Genius has introduced a tiger loaf in its gluten free range. It’s part of their gut-friendly collection and felt soft and fresh when I picked it up. I’m curious to compare its flavour and texture to other tiger loaves I’ve tried.

Genius Gluten Free Country White Loaf

This new country white loaf from Genius was soft and springy to the touch. I haven’t sampled it yet, but it looks like a solid all-purpose gluten free white loaf for sandwiches and toast.

Warburtons Gluten Free Sliced Square Rolls

Warburtons has expanded its gluten free lineup with super-soft sliced square rolls. I tried one as a sandwich roll and was impressed by the texture—soft and fresh, a good option for quick lunches.

Warburtons Gluten Free Square Brioche Rolls

Also from Warburtons are square brioche-style rolls. They were pillowy and soft, though I personally prefer a round bun for burgers. Still, they make an attractive, slightly elevated option for sandwiches and burgers if you don’t mind the square shape.

Co-op Gluten Free Belgian Chocolate Twists

The Co-op has added Belgian chocolate twists to its gluten free pastry selection. I’m excited to try these; they look like a great option for an indulgent snack or treat.

Tiger Tiger’s free-from curry kits are now appearing in supermarkets’ free-from aisles. The noodle options look particularly tempting, and these kits should be convenient for quick midweek dinners with bold flavours.

Morrisons Gluten Free Brown Seeded Sliced Half Loaf

Morrisons has launched a gluten free and vegan brown seeded half loaf. Its smaller size is ideal if you have limited freezer space or don’t need a full loaf, and the seeded profile adds pleasant texture and flavour.

Morrisons Free From Golden Crunchies

I tried Morrisons’ golden sandwich-style crunchies and enjoyed them. They’re a tasty biscuit option that worked well as a snack and came at a reasonable price point for a free-from product.

The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co Toad in the Hole

The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co’s gluten free toad in the hole is genuinely impressive. I sampled this as part of a previous campaign and found it delicious—now available in Morrisons for easy home dinners.

I enjoyed a flatbread pizza from Kirsty’s found in the frozen free-from aisle. It’s tasty and convenient, though slightly smaller than I expected for the price. Still, it’s a solid option when you want something quick and satisfying.
