February is a month filled with reminders to care for the people we love, including ourselves. It is American Heart Month, Valentine’s Day arrives on February 14, and National Almond Day is celebrated on February 16. With so much attention on hearts and health, it is the perfect time to share a simple snack that feels special while still being made with wholesome ingredients.
This Dark Chocolate Almond Cranberry Trail Mix combines crunchy roasted almonds, chewy dried cranberries, light air-popped popcorn, whole grain cereal, and a drizzle of rich dark chocolate. It tastes like a treat, but it is also a practical snack you can keep on hand for busy afternoons, lunch boxes, road trips, or a thoughtful Valentine’s Day surprise. The contrast of sweet, tart, crunchy, and chocolatey makes every handful satisfying without being overly heavy.
Almonds and dark chocolate are a classic pairing, and this trail mix makes the most of that combination. The almonds bring protein, fiber, and a satisfying crunch, while the cranberries add natural tartness and a chewy texture. Popcorn and whole grain cereal help add volume, making the mix feel generous and snackable. Because nuts and chocolate are rich ingredients, the lighter additions help balance the trail mix and keep it enjoyable as an everyday snack.

This healthy homemade trail mix is naturally cholesterol-free and includes ingredients known for being filling and flavorful. Almonds offer plant-based protein and fiber, dried cranberries contribute more fiber and a bright fruit flavor, popcorn adds crunch, and whole grain cereal gives the mix extra texture. The dark chocolate drizzle ties everything together and makes the snack feel more indulgent than it really is.
If you are looking for an easy heart-healthy snack recipe, this dark chocolate almond cranberry trail mix is a great option. It takes only a short amount of time to prepare, stores well once the chocolate has hardened, and can be portioned into small containers or snack bags. Keep some in your desk drawer, pack a serving in your bag, or share it with someone who would appreciate a homemade treat.

Instructions
Roast Almonds
-
Spread the almonds in a single layer on an ungreased baking pan. Place the pan in a 350ºF oven and bake for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the almonds are golden brown and fragrant. Stir once or twice while baking so they brown evenly. The almonds will continue to roast slightly after they are removed from the oven, so avoid overbaking them.
Trail Mix
-
Break the dark chocolate into small pieces and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for one minute, then stir. Heat for another minute and stir again. If the chocolate has not fully melted, continue heating briefly until smooth.
-
In a large bowl, combine the roasted almonds, air-popped popcorn, dried cranberries, and whole grain cereal. Drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the mixture and gently toss or spread it out so the chocolate touches the ingredients. Let the trail mix cool completely until the chocolate hardens before serving or storing.
